Curly hair can be a really tricky hair type to look after! It either gets too dry or too greasy and it's super hard to maintain that right balance.  

Being someone who has 3C curls, there were times I had had enough of my curly hair and actually tried straightening it in the past.

But it is all fun and games until your roots start to show up curly and the rest of your hair is straight! Yes, that horribly awkward stage!

So over the years I finally learned how to embrace my curls and tried so many curly hair-dedicated shampoos, but didn’t find any satisfactory. Well, so this time I’m on it again.

I recently tried out the Shea Moisture Curl and Shine Shampoo and hoped that it would finally help moisturize my curls and give it a better bounce and make it look more defined.

Scalp and hair gentleness:

I always look for shampoos which have no sulfates, silicones or parabens because they are super damaging to the hair. So this aspect tests how gentle this shampoo felt on my sensitive scalp and damaged curly hair.

Product effectiveness:

This product offers to curl enhancement, hair restoration, and improvement of hair shine. So this aspect will test how effectively this product works and whether it fulfills its main functions.

Fragrance:

If a product is mildly scented, I’m good to go, but otherwise, I’d rather have an unscented shampoo as compared to one with a harsh scent. So this is something that I always consider.

Colour-treated hair safety of use:

It has been over 3 years now that I have been colouring my hair often and that’s why I prefer using products that are specifically safe for colour-treated hair or at least those which do not contain harsh chemicals that can further damage my hair.

My ideal price range for a shampoo would be within $10, so this was $10.42, so it fit perfectly within my budget.

I have 3C curls, which were super dry and damaged due to heat and colour treatments over the years.

Also, I had quite a lot of product buildup on my scalp because of the n number of hair care products I have tried on my hair, from hair oils, to shampoos, serums and conditioners to help revive my dry, limp and lifeless curls.

Well, I can finally say that I have found my “perfect” shampoo! I simply love how well this shampoo worked on my hair.

I have been using it for over a month now, but I actually started seeing the results on my hair and scalp within just three or four washes (that’s around two weeks).

It did definitely help cleanse my scalp off some of the buildup and reduced my hair greasiness to a large extent. So this in turn helped revive my curls and reduced its greasy appearance, giving my hair better definition and volume.

My scalp is quite sensitive and this product was super gentle on both my hair and scalp. It contained absolutely no sulfates, parabens, or silicones and that is something I loved because it also suited my coloured hair just fine.

What I also liked was how this shampoo gave my hair a renewed shine and made my curls feel moisturized like never before!

While my curls were dry, earlier, today they feel so light and voluminous, with a beautiful natural bounce.

I can safely say how perfectly it restored the health of my damaged hair and made my hair become more manageable and easier to detangle.

This shampoo has a nice creamy texture and I always dilute it with a little water and apply it on my wet hair. This helps create a good lather, making it easier for me to massage it into my hair.

Talking about the fragrance of this product – it has a coconut scent and I am in love with it!

Well, considering the fact that I am a lover of the scent of coconuts, I may be a little biased here, but the tropical coconut smell made my hair feel so fresh and refreshed once it dried. It’s the perfect subtle smell.

Lastly, coming to the pricing aspect, I bought it off of Amazon and got it for $10.42, which I thought was fairly reasonable for the 384 ml bottle of shampoo I received.

Make sure to wet your hair well before applying a generous amount of shampoo all over your hair. Here’s a tip from my side – you could dilute the shampoo with a little water before you use it, so that it lathers even better.

Massage it into your hair well and then leave it on for a few minutes. Thereafter, wash it off thoroughly and use a conditioner.
