I have given the Olaplex No 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo in the article below and also explained the chief ingredients used. Check it out!
I have been many versions of a blonde, redhead, brunette and a few other colors in between. I am a sucker for hair colors but sadly it comes with a price.
People often tell me how lucky I am because I have long and silky straight hair but I couldn't disagree more because half the time I spend on finding the right volumizing hair care products.
My hair feels dry, damaged and over-processed at most times, this is where I discovered an amazing product that changed my hair forever.
The Olaplex No4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo is a moisturizing and repairing hair product that helps reduce hair breakage and damage, frizziness, and leaves you with realty and strong hair.
It is best suitable for dry and damaged hair which was perfect for me.
Here is my experience with the shampoo and my honest review-

Water/Aqua/H20
Water in most hair care products (and other cosmetics) is the chief component of the formula as it’s the solvent which dissolves all the other ingredients.
The water used in hair care products is sterile and deionized. This means there are no minerals in this water as they can interfere with the other ingredients.
Water-based hair products, especially conditioners are lighter, spread easily and help hydrate your hair if there are humectants (like glycerin, etc.) present in the formula.
Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate
Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate is a surfactant that is derived from coconut. A surfactant is a type of cleansing agent that removes dirt, debris and other impurities from skin/hair/other surfaces by reducing surface tension between molecules.
This ingredient is a milder version of harsh surfactants like SLS and SLES and is sometimes used in place of them in color-protect shampoos and other products formulated for sensitive scalps.
Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine
Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine is used in hair care products for several reasons. It can be used as a thickening agent to help make the consistency of the shampoo better or it can be used as a foaming agent to increase lather in shampoos.
It also functions as a conditioning agent and helps prevent moisture loss from scalp skin and hair.
This ingredient is non toxic and safe for use on skin and hair. It is also gentle on skin.
However, it might cause irritation in eyes if exposed to the area.
My Review Of The Olaplex No 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo
The shampoo uses patented technology perfectly to promote healthy looking hair with each wash.
It is suitable for hair that has been exposed to frequent chemical treatments, hair coloring like me, bleaching, heat styling, and so on.
It also delivers the moisture you need without weighing your length down. I used it along with the conditioner twice a week.
Size & Packaging:
I appreciate the minimalist Olaplex shampoo bottle look. It is very sturdy, hard and sleek and comes without any box packaging so that means a reduced carbon footprint, which is cool. I love the size of 250 ml because I think it's very travel friendly and super convenient to carry around.
Ingredients:
T-Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate is a unique patented technology that is the main special ingredient used for the Olaplex hair care products that restores hair from the inside out, protects hair from damage and smoothes out the hair cuticles.
Texture:
I love how remarkable the shampoo is and how it creates a creamy, rich and buildable lather that is quite satisfying and easy to apply to hair.
Fragrance:
The scent is fresh and gives a very citrusy and grapefruit vibe. My hair was left smelling very light in a subtle way which is what I want from a shampoo. I loathe overly-sweet smelling products or an overpowering scent.
Price:
You can either order your bottle from amazon for 30 dollars or sephora for 15 dollars.
Overall results:
A few weeks before reviewing this product, I dyed my hair chocolate brown because I am obsessed. I went into testing Olaplex thinking it would either smooth out my mane for a few hours before or it would be too hydrating and would weigh down my hair. To my good luck, neither of these things happened.
I was simply blown away by how nourished and smooth my hair felt, and never felt too greasy or heavy. I can tell the shampoo is really getting my hair nice and clean, without stripping it off completely.
Pros and Cons
What I liked-
- Noticeable results (I could feel the difference in just week of use)
- Buildable lather
- Pleasant scent (not strong)
- Leaves hair silky and smooth without weighing it down
What I disliked-
- Works best as a team so you need to buy the conditioner too to see effective and long-lasting results.
Should I Use The Olaplex 4 and 5 Together?
I think you are well aware of how to use shampoo but one thing I would like to recommend, and I always did this no matter the brand, is to let the product sit on your hair in the shower for at least three minutes.
Give your hair the time to soak in all that nourishment and hydration. At the end, your hair will feel fresh and it's a great relief to find a nourishing shampoo that actually works on all hair types.
My hair went from feeling brittle and dry to shiny, smooth and healthy without having to sacrifice any volume.
But keep in mind that the Olaplex is a teamwork system, which means you can use the Olaplex Conditioner to complement the shampoo.
I only tried the shampoo and conditioner and was very impressed with the results. Highly recommended.
