In this article, I will be comparing and assessing the Kerastase vs Keratin treatment. I will also give my verdict on which one is better and why.
If you are someone like me, blessed with long and luscious curls but looking for a way to straighten your curls, you are at the right place.
No, I am not advising you to buy a flat iron and straighten it out until your next hair wash.
We are always on the lookout for new treatments, oils, serums, shampoos and other trendy hair treatment methods.
If you wish to achieve long-lasting straightening, you have two choices: Kerastase or Keratin hair treatment.
Do you find yourself torn between the two of them? Which one should you go for? Take your pick after reading about my personal experience with both of them-
Kerastase vs Keratin Treatment
Who is it Suitable For?
Suitable for all hair types and textures- dry, frizzy, curly, damaged or over-processed hair. But, remember to always consult a professional before undergoing either treatment.
Smoothness-
I think both treatments did an equally good job with regard to making it smooth but if I had to pick a winner: definitely keratin hands down.
Price-
If you are looking for something on a special occasion, then choose Kerastase treatment because Keratin is more expensive and not budget friendly.
Efficiency-
If you are looking for something long-lasting, definitely opt for Keratin because the results will last you for a longer time.
What Is Kersatase?
Kerastase treatments can be done at the comfort of your own home, it is an incredible hair treatment that gives you smooth, nourished, and hydrated hair in an instant.
There are numerous hair care products and treatment plans to give you unbelievably glass-like shiny and sleek hair.
Packed with unique, innovative and cutting-edge formulas and ingredients, Kerastase represents the finest in luxury hair care.
After a quick comb-through and blow-dry, you will notice the results instantly and you will love your transformed look.
The treatment usually lasts upto twenty shampoos which is an average of three months for most clients and is best suited for anyone with damaged, dry and over-processed hair.
So, these treatments are used to help restore such effects and can even help you with further hair damage.
What personally drew me towards kerastase was the fact that it could be customized in twenty different ways to make sure you get the results you desire.
What Is Keratin Treatment?
If you haven’t heard about Keratin before, it is nothing but a fibrous structural protein that exists in our hair, nails and skin.
Keratin makes the hair stronger, and lustrous but sadly for us curly-haired females, the protein is weaker which results in frizziness and dryness.
A keratin treatment is a chemical process done at salons by expert hair care professionals who coat the hair strands with the protein, blow-drying and sealing it with a flat iron to achieve the best results.
Keep in mind there are various types of keratin treatments where the basic idea and end result of making your hair super straight and shiny.
I personally adore this treatment because I think it does absolute wonders for my hair.
Thes treatment usually takes anywhere between three to four hours depending only your hair type, length and thickness, the results can last upto six months.
Kerastase Fusio Dose Hair Care Treatment V/s Brazilian Keratin Hair Treatment
So, the good news is that I personally tried both these treatments ( separate times of course) so here is a little background about my hair.
I have always had curly and unruly hair for as long as I can remember. In college, I always used a flat iron to set my hair.
It wasn’t until a year ago that I decided to chop my hair short because I was tired of the heavy maintenance of my long, curly hair.
My personal stylist suggested both these treatments to me so I personally decided to try them both to see what works best for me.
Kerastase Fusio Dose Hair Care Treatment
As much as I love being daring, I did not want to attempt this at home so just to give you a brief about what this treatment is-
Kérastase Fusio-Dose, an in-salon treatment packed with powerful boosters and highly concentrated care formulas and suited for any hair type.
The Kérastaste diagnostic camera analyzes your hair and scalp to give you a precise hair diagnosis and identify your exact primary and secondary hair care needs such as choice of concentrate, shine, manageability, density and so on.
Procedure:
Step 1: A scalp check was done first, then they recommended the treatment plan based on the results. Felt like I was waiting for my school results.
So, I passed with flying colors and was informed my hair scalp and roots were healthy and my tips needed nourishment.
Step 2: Next, she used the Kerastase Bain Divalent which is basically a balancing shampoo, after this was the exciting part-the conditioning.
Step 3: I really loved how she mixed the booster and concentrate which felt like I was watching the bartender mixing a drink.
She mixed the Kerastase Oleo Fusion concentrate for re-nourishment and the booster nutrition and applied it from the roots to the tips for around seven minutes and then she rinsed it off.
Step 4: Next, she towel-dried my hair using the Kerastase Elixir Oil for heat resistance, which left my hair feeling soft and smooth, then finally she blow-dried my hair.
Pros:
-Tackles hair issues
-Adds density
-Conditions and hydrates hair
Cons:
–Not long-lasting
Price: The total hair care treatment cost me around $35 dollars.
Effects on My hair:
The whole process did not take very long and the major pro about this treatment is the fact that you can do it at home.
My hair felt light and fresh and no kidding, I felt like a Disney princess. It felt healthy and soft but unfortunately lasted only for four weeks.
What I personally admire about this treatment was that my natural hair texture was beautifully maintained.
If you are someone who only likes to get such elaborate treatments done for important occasions and do not see the point of investing in all those expensive products, then this could be the perfect solution!
Brazilian Keratin Hair Treatment
If you are looking for something more permanent and long-lasting then this is the way to go.
Theonie Kakoulli, a famous UK stylist, told PEOPLE magazine that Meghan Markle herself used to come to her for keratin treatments.
She isn’t the only high-profile celebrity who does this but others like Jennifer Aniston also swear by it.
My hair is a lot of things besides curly and frizzy, styling alone takes me around thirty minutes in the morning. So, I was super excited to try this.
Here is my personal experience with thai hair care treatment-
Procedure:
Step 1: My hairdresser first washed my hair thoroughly and applied Keratin cream by Macpaul because it uses a formaldehyde-free formula. She parted my hair while applying.
Step 2: After washing it, I sat under a dryer for more than twenty minutes
Step 3: She blow-dried my hair and began flat ironing it by taking it in small sections. The flat iron helps create that glossy finish and traps moisture. This is a very tedious process.
Step 4: I was advised to wash off my hair after seventy-two hours to see my finished look. Was I happy? Hell yes!
Pros:
-No frizz
-Smooth and Shiny hair
-More manageable hair
-Long-lasting results
Cons:
-Contains formaldehyde which is dangerous if inhaled
-Expensive
Price: The total haircare treatment was $300. Although it was slightly expensive, it is better to get this done at the best salon in your city.
Effects on My hair:
It’s been over four months since I did the treatment. I still love how my hair looks and feels, there are times when I miss my curls a lot but this is something I always wanted since a long time.
It takes me five minutes to do my hair now and would definitely recommend this to all girls with frizzy hair who are looking to have manageable hair.
I will go back to my natural curls later but for now, I am loving every second of this.
Summary:
So, there you have it. Just remember the major rule after any hair smoothening treatment- stay away from swimming for some time and avoid ponytails. I mean you wouldn’t want to risk creating a bump in your newly-straightened hair.
Both of the above have hair care shampoos and conditioners to maintain your treatment for as long as possible.
In the end, choose the one that you think will suit you better.
If you are looking for something more permanent opt for keratin but if you just want something for a fun night out or office party, then glam up and try the kerastase treatment.
