Garnier Whole Blends Honey Treasures Repairing Shampoo Review

Before I tried this shampoo, I thought it would be nothing special but I was so wrong. It was absolutely amazing.

I am long overdue for my haircut so my hair was in pretty rough condition. Here is my experience with the Garnier Whole Blends Honey Treasures Repairing shampoo.

Is Whole blends honey treasures good for your hair

Ingredients:

The entire line of Garnier Whole Blends Shampoos is paraben-free and designed to gently nurture hair, and has natural ingredients such as honey, royal jelly, and propolis extracts which are all equally good to heal and strengthen damaged hair. All these ingredients are secretly blended with sensorial fragrances meant to nourish your hair.

Size & Packaging:

I personally loved how the brand’s eco-conscious ethos can be seen in their packaging aesthetics with a honey coloured plastic bottle and pretty standard cap which shuts tightly. The size is around 12.5 fl oz.

Texture:

The consistency was neither too thick or too thin and lathered really well and found that it healed my split ends and dryness.

Fragrance:

Some honey-scented shampoos are too heavy and strong but this one was delightfully sweet and I personally loved the richness of the honey smell on my hair as it lingered on for two days.

Gentleness on hair:

Although I wasn’t expecting any major miracles, the shampoo left my hair feeling soft, smooth and well nourished especially my ends which looked shinier than usual ( So, yes tiny miracle).

Price:

I bought my shampoo along with the conditioner for 5 dollars on amazon. So I’d say it’s very easy on your pockets

Water/Aqua/H20

Water in most hair care products (and other cosmetics) is the chief component of the formula as it’s the solvent which dissolves all the other ingredients.

The water used in hair care products is sterile and deionized. This means there are no minerals in this water as they can interfere with the other ingredients.

Water-based hair products, especially conditioners are lighter, spread easily and help hydrate your hair if there are humectants (like glycerin, etc.) present in the formula.

Sodium Laureth Sulfate

As far as surfactants go, Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) is slightly milder and less irritating than Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS).

Okay so think of this way, SLS is the worst offending surfactant which can lead to redness, dryness, irritation, etc. on skin. SLES isn’t as bad but it can trigger irritation if you have sensitive scalps, Ammonium lauryl sulfate is generally safer and mild.

While most coconut-derived surfactants like cocamide MEA, etc. are known to be safe on sensitive skin as well.

However, SLES is fantastic for cleaning your scalp of debris, dirt, excess oil and product buildup, but it can strip hair dye so it shouldn’t be used on color-treated hair.

Also, a strong surfactant can clarify your scalp, clearing the way for hair fall medication like serums, etc. to reach your follicles and help them get adequate nutrition.

Royal Jelly

Royal jelly is a substance secreted by young bees that functions as food for the Queen Bee. This substance is also edible and widely used for cosmetic purposes.

It has strong anti-inflammatory properties which makes it excellent for use in scalps affected by redness, irritation, and other conditions like eczema. (Yanagita, Manabu et al. “Osteoinductive and anti-inflammatory effect of royal jelly on periodontal ligament cells.” Biomedical research (Tokyo, Japan) vol. 32,4 (2011): 285-91. doi:10.2220/biomedres.32.285)

It is also highly nourishing and moisturizing. Some nutrients that make up royal jelly include vitamin B5 and other B-group vitamins, folic acid, inositol, vitamin c and biotin.

As it is rich in protein, royal jelly can also help boost hair growth and strengthen hair strands.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is a plant that has been used for medicinal purposes in ancient India, Greece, Rome and China since time immemorial. Usually the gel-like substance that is present in the leaves of the aloe vera plant is used for cosmetic purposes.

This substance is rich in vitamins, minerals, amino acids, monosaccharides, polysaccharides, omega fatty acids among other nutrients that nourish your hair.

Aloe Vera is also used in shampoos to act as a humectant and a moisturizer. This means that not only is the aloe vera plant great at adding hydration to your scalp and hair, but it is also great at moisturizing your tresses without making them greasy.

You can often find aloe vera as an ingredient in cosmetics that are prepared for oily skin and scalp types as it’s lightweight and non-comedogenic (it doesn’t clog your pores).

Honey

Honey is not just an excellent emollient (it traps moisture into your hair and skin cells) it also contains anti-inflammatory properties.

This ingredient is essential for helping dry hair and scalp as it’s a humectant as well as an emollient. This means that honey helps add moisture to your hair and then seals the hydration inside the strands. So it’s good for low porosity hair as well.

Also, honey contains a compound called glucose oxidase that can break down glucose in cells to release hydrogen peroxide, which is a bleaching agent. So honey can actually lighten your hair (to a certain extent of course).

Pros and Cons

What I liked-

  • The use of natural ingredients.
  • It does not leave the hair dry.
  • Easy to lather and wash off easily.
  • Has a sweet smelling honey fragrance.
  • Prevents split ends and hair damage.
  • Paraben-free formula.

What I disliked-

  • While this may not be an issue for everyone, I would prefer if the bottle came in a tube because it was quite bulky to use in the shower.
  • It contains both sodium laureth sulfate and sodium lauryl sulfate

Summary

My hair loves me now thanks to this amazing shampoo. I like how it feels after hair wash.

I did not expect to fall in love with the smell of honey and now I feel like I am showering in nature’s honey pot.

The shampoo gave me very good results and with the use of the conditioner, I did find it softer and less damaged. My hair felt so smooth and soft that I would definitely recommend this for anyone looking to restore their damaged hair or who would like to prevent split ends.
