If you want to dye your hair lavender and you have already bleached your hair, you should try Manic Panic or L'Oreal. Manic Panic is a semi-permanent dye, which means it will wash out in about 2 weeks, but it is a very vibrant and fun color. L'Oreal is a temporary dye, which means it will wash out in about 4-8 shampoos, but it is a much more subtle color.

Manic Panic Violet Night Hair Dye Classic
Best Temporary Lavender Hair Dye
Anyone who’s ever wanted to dye their hair a non-conventional color has heard of Manic Panic. I mean this hair color is a cult classic at this point and I wanted to try it since watching Youtuber Audrie Storme try the Manic Panic Blue Steel & Purple Haze dyes in her video a few years ago!
But right off the bat, I was a bit disappointed with this shade.
Firstly, the color wasn’t the periwinkle lavender I wanted but a darker, cool-toned purple. I also checked other shades in Manic Panic like Plum or Ultra Violet, and this was the closest shade to lavender they had.
However, it did show up nicely on my bleached blonde hair. Unfortunately, I don’t think the color lasts for long.
It was gone by the 5th wash which was very disappointing as I was using a color-protect sulfate-free shampoo too!
Also, the hair dye is super-pigmented (which is a good thing for your hair) but the residue on the tub and shower and your hands is very difficult to clean. The other good thing about this hair color is that it is free from ammonia and PPD as well. As the US Food and Drug Administration says PPD is linked to allergic reactions on users. So it's a great thing that this dye is hypoallergenic.
I would suggest this purple hair dye to people who have naturally or bleached blonde hair. And also folks who don’t want to damage their hair further with stronger dyes.
People with darker hair need either a high-lift dye with ammonia or a strong developer to add to the dye.
Or they can go with a more powerful color-depositing product like Arctic Fox or Lime Crime. But these are only temporary, mind you!
Pros:
- Very strongly pigmented and shows up nicely on lighter hair shades
- Doesn’t contain ammonia, PPD or alcohol so 100% safe on sensitive skin
- Cream-based formula doesn’t need a developer as is very easy to apply
- Good for animal lovers as it’s vegan
- Contains aloe vera that will keep dry hair hydrated while coloring
Cons:
- Washes off very easily even if you’re using a color-protect shampoo
- The dye pigments can stain your bathroom and skin
- Color will only show up as an undertone on black/dark hair
My Ratings:
- Color Depositing Power - 4/5
- Staying Power - 3/5
- Safety of Ingredients - 5/5

Adore Semi-Permanent Hair Color, PeriWinkle
Best Pastel Purple Hair Dye
Okay, so the name of this lavender hair dye is what drew me to it in the first place. It matches the Pantone color of the year 2022 “Very Peri” which is short for very periwinkle.
I loved the shade too. It’s a lighter shade of lilac and has hints of blue in it as well. If you’re looking for a silver lavender hair dye this is the one.
What also impressed me about this dye is that it’s not just ammonia-free, but it also doesn’t contain alcohol either. So if you have dry hair (or bleached hair which is prone to dryness like me!), you shouldn’t be worried about using this dye.
This color gave the exact shade on application on blonde hair but if you were to apply it on black hair or other darker shades of hair, I guess it would just appear as lowlights or a purplish undertone.
So you can choose strong color-depositing products like Manic Panic or Arctic Fox instead for dark hair.
The hair color lasted on my hair for about 10 washes or so. And this was me not using a sulfate-based, clarifying shampoo.
So if you maintain it well, you can make the color last anywhere between a fortnight and a month depending on your hair wash cycle.
Pros:
- Hair color is ammonia and PPD free so it’s safe for pregnant women and people with sensitive skin
- It’s free of alcohol so it’s safe for dry skin
- Smells good and doesn’t have the chemical “dye” odor
- Doesn’t stain hands or clothes during application
Cons:
- Doesn’t show up well on dark hair as it’s a lighter shade
- Lasts only 10-12 washes (if you’re using a sulfate-free, color safe shampoo)
My Ratings:
- Color Depositing Power - 4/5
- Staying Power - 3.5.5
- Safety of Ingredients - 4.5/5
ARCTIC FOX Periwinkle Semi-Permanent Hair Color
Best Lavender Hair Dye For Grey Hair
In theory, Arctic Fox is supposed to be a color-depositing hair dye that only coats your hair strands with pigments. So it should work a–okay with dark hair.
But when I had our other dark haired editors test out the product it didn’t show up well on darker hair.
The only way to make color appear on dark hair is to saturate hair with the dye and leave it on for a longer period of time. But even that isn’t a guarantee of your hair turning a pastel lavender.
So this one is again a no-go for dark hair.
However, it worked like a charm on my light blonde hair. And the best thing? It doesn’t bleed or stain the way Manic Panic does.
The Arctic Fox hair dye is also ammonia-free and PPD-free. So if I were to choose between these two, I’d go for Arctic Fox.
It is also vegan and cruelty-free. So bonus points for that.
Pros:
- The hair dye is safe for pregnant women and people with extra sensitive skin as it’s free of phthalates, suflates, silicones, ammonia, PPD and even gluten.
- It’s 100% vegan and cruelty free
- Doesn’t bleed and run and won’t stain your shower or clothes
- It lasts longer than other color-depositing dyes like Manic Panic
Cons:
- Will still wash off easily as it’s a temporary solution
- Doesn’t come out well on dark hair
My Ratings:
- Color Depositing Power - 4/5
- Staying Power - 4/5
- Safety of Ingredients - 5/5

L'Oreal Paris Colorista Semi-Permanent Hair Color
Best Professional Lavender Hair Dye
Most of the hair dyes I’ve reviewed here are actually color-depositing dyes. But I wanted a lavender hair dye that can last for a longer time.
So I selected the LÓreal Colorista. Big mistake. Huge!
Is the color long lasting? Heck yeah. But the thing is, it stays on and on. Which would not have been an issue if it wasn’t for the fading.
Other dyes like Arctic Fox or Manic Panic wash off in one go. However this hair dye made my lavender hair go from a bright, cool violet, to splotchy greyish shades over the course of 2 months.
So only get this color if you’re planning on being a “lavender head” for a long time and are open to frequent reapplications.
Otherwise just stick to a more temporary solution like Arctic Fox or Lime Crime, they are better for your hair too!
Pros:
- Is more long lasting than other semi-permanent hair dyes
- Will show up on unbleached lighter brown and brunette hair (not on dark or black hair however)
- It has a vegan formula with no ammonia or peroxide to damage hair or cause health issues
Cons:
- Can be difficult to wash off if you want to change hair color
- Doesn’t get washed off at once and fades to a splotchy color over a course of time
- Powerful pigments, but it still won’t show up on very dark brown or black hair
My Ratings:
- Color Depositing Power - 4.5/5
- Staying Power - 5/5
- Safety of Ingredients - 4/5
Iroiro 210 Lavender Pastel Vegan Cruelty-Free Semi-Permanent Hair Colour
I recently tried the Iroiro 210 Lavender Pastel Vegan Cruelty-Free Semi-Permanent Hair Colour and was pleasantly surprised by the results. As someone who has experimented with various hair colours over the years, I was excited to try a product that was not only vegan and cruelty-free but also promised a long-lasting, pastel lavender shade.
The application process was fairly easy and straightforward, and the colour developed quickly. I left the dye in for the recommended 45 minutes and was pleased to see a vibrant lavender shade after rinsing it out. The colour was even and didn't leave any patchy areas, which can be a common issue with semi-permanent hair dyes.
Overall, I was very pleased with the Iroiro Hair Colour. Not only did it provide vibrant and long-lasting colour, but it also left my hair feeling soft and healthy, which is rare if you use box dyes with developers. If you are looking for a high-quality vegan and cruelty-free hair dye, I highly recommend giving this product a try.
Pros:
- Very long lasting as dye penetrates deep into the hair strands
- Won't leave patchy dye figments on hair
- Vegan formula is very gentle on hair
Cons:
- It's a semi permanent hair dye so it contains hydrogen peroxide in it's formula
My Ratings:
- Color Depositing Power - 5/5
- Staying Power - 5/5
- Safety of Ingredients - 4/5

How to choose the right lavender hair dye for yourself
When choosing the right lavender hair dye shade for yourself, there are several factors to consider. Here are some tips to help you find the perfect lavender shade that suits your style and complexion:
Skin Tone: Consider your skin tone when selecting a lavender hair dye shade. Lavender comes in various undertones, such as cool (bluish) or warm (pinkish). If you have cool undertones, opt for a cooler-toned lavender, while warm undertones tend to look better with warmer lavender shades. If you have a neutral undertone, you can experiment with both cool and warm lavender shades.
Hair Color Level: Take into account your base hair color level. If your current hair color is a lighter hue such as blonde or light ash brown, will allow the lavender shade to show more vibrantly. If you have dark hair, you may need to pre-lighten or bleach your hair before applying the lavender dye to achieve the desired result.
Desired Intensity: Determine the level of intensity you want for your lavender hair. Some lavender shades are more pastel and muted, while others are bolder and more vibrant. Consider your personal style and the statement you want your hair to make. Pastel lavenders are softer and more subtle, while vibrant lavenders create a more eye-catching and bold look.

Conclusion
If you want to dye your hair lavender and you don't want to bleach your hair, you should try a color depositing dye. These dyes go on clear and deposit their color onto your hair.
If you want a more permanent hair dye, you should choose box dyes that come with developers. I have reviewed both types of hair colors in the article above.
