Check out the reviews for the best beard trimmers for black men for Wahl, Hattekar, Philips and more brands for fades, lineups, and other styles.
Beards no longer have to be scruffy! It’s the age of well-groomed men who pay attention to their looks and personal style. And here's where the best beard trimmers for black men come in handy.
Black hair or Afro hair requires more care and nourishment. It’s naturally curlier, coarser, and more prone to breakage.
So beards are more in danger of looking straggly. Not to mention the beard trimmers can have a heck of a time getting through the thick strands. There are several styles you can do with these trimmers - goatees, classic mustaches, sleek fades, and more.

Top Beard Trimmers For Black Men 2024
Wahl Stainless Steel Lithium Ion Trimmer (best beard trimmer for black men overall)
Best Electric Trimmer For Men
The first one on my list of the best beard trimmers for black men is the Wahl Stainless Steel Lithium Ion Trimmer. This electric trimmer might actually be among my favorite ones too.
I liked that it’s got a lithium-ion battery that gets charged super quickly. And by quick, I mean 60 seconds flat.
So the next time I hit the snooze button too many times and need to get ready for work in a flash, this trimmer has got my back! Full disclosure, the 60-second flash charge offers three minutes of power.
During less rushed times, the fully-charged battery can last up to four hours, depending on the use. And I found that pretty decent for everyday shaving and manscaping.
But my favorite part perhaps is the several combs and guard lengths. So you can work with different beard lengths. And if you want to get rid of the nose, ear, and body hair, there are attachments for that as well.
The attachements are also one of the least favorable aspects of this trimmer. While they are plenty, they are difficult to use.
I find the positioning awkward when you use one of the beard guards for instance. I always end up cutting off a few quarter-inches more than I desired sometimes!
Another little drawback it has is that you cannot use it in the shower! Also, this trimmer is cordless only, so no shaving while charging.
Tech Specifications:
- Lithium ion 2.0+ Battery
Dual Voltage
6 Hours Runtime
Pros:
- Comes with 12 attachment guards to cut your beard to different lengths
- One minute quick charge that lasts up to 3 minutes
- Comes with attachments that help to shave nose and ear hair
Cons:
- You cannot use the trimmer while it's charging
- It's not waterproof so you can't use it in the shower
- Attachements are a bit awkward to use
My Ratings:
- Power of the Motor - 4.5/5
- Battery Life - 5/5
- Attachements - 3.5/5
Hatteker Beard Trimmer (best among waterproof trimmers)
Best Waterproof Beard Trimmer
If you like getting on with your grooming session in the shower like me, I suggest you try the Hattekar Beard Trimmer.
I loved how it has great quality and is waterproof trimmer!
This black man’s electric razor comes with a lithium-ion battery that comes in handy while traveling. And the USB fast charge feature gives you 60 minutes of shave time with just 90 minutes of charge.
I really liked the variety of combs and attachments you get with this 5-in-1 trimmer. There are four beard combs, a precision trimmer, a body groomer, and an attachment for nose and ear hair.
Yes, the attachements are fewer than those in the Wahl one but they are well placed on the trimmer and easy to use.
I also liked that this trimmer is a good choice you have slightly sensitive skin. The combination of moving and standing blades shave cut close to the skin, preventing any friction or heat, even if you're not using shaving cream.
So if you want a dry shave, this is it!
But is it all good here? Nope! While the battery life and attachements of the Hattekar trimmer is commendable, the power of the motor is somewhat lacking.
I had a slightly longer beard while I was testing this trimmer and I found it a bit difficult to maneuvre around my coarse hair.
So if you've got thin beard hair or only keep short styles, this should be enough. But if not, try something more powerful, preferably a corded trimmer like the ConairMan.
Tech Specifications:
USB Charger
9 Hours Runtime
Waterproof
Pros:
- Comes with both standing and moving blades design that give a close shave without hurting skin
- Can be used without shaving cream
- Can be used in the shower as it's waterproof
Cons:
- The motor of the blades is not powerful and can take time to shave coarse hair
My Ratings:
- Power of the Motor - 3.5/5
- Battery Life - 4.5/5
- Attachements - 4.5/5
Philips Norelco Beard Trimmer Series 7200 With Vacuum (best cordless beard trimmer)
Best Vacuum Beard Trimmer
I always found the constant cleaning up of stray hair after shaving really annoying.
So the next beard trimmer I decided to review was this Philips Norelco beard trimmer as it was a vacuum trimmer.
And it was a mixed feeling really.
I really like how it moves smoothly on black skin. The sharpened stainless steel blades offer a clean, easy shave even on the thickest afro hair.
But the real star here is the power vacuum that suctions almost 90 percent of beard hair that’s being shaved off.
I also liked that the he trimmer also comes with a lift technology that lifts hair strands for a more even shave.
But my favorite part is probably that if you want to trim harder to reach areas, then the Philips Norelco also comes with a precision attachment.
The battery life is also amazing. Charging for one hour will give you at least minutes of shave time. And this trimmer is not so hard on your pockets either.
So what's got me hesitant to use this trimmer?
Well the build for one thing. I was really disappointed to see this quality from Philips of all brands!
The blades are held together by flimsy plastic tabs that broke on the 4th use. So this trimmer is all good but that good doesn't last long!
Also you won't get any nose or ear trimming attachments with this product. The number of beard guards is also less compared to Wahl or Hattekar. But then again it is cheaper than both of these trimmers.
Tech Specifications:
0.5mm Precision Settings
Stainless Steel Blades
80 Min Cordless Use/1h Charge
Pros:
- Affordable pricing (especially compard to brands like Wahl)
- Reaches full charge in one hour only
- Self sharpening blades do not need blade oil or maintenance
Cons:
- No quick charge mechanism
- Blades are connected by plastic tabs that fall apart quickly
- Does not come with nose and ear hair trimming attachments
My Ratings:
- Power of the Motor - 3/5
- Battery Life - 4.5/5
- Attachements - 3.5/5

Plus, there’s also a Gillette razor, and the trimmer comes with 13 beard length settings. We also loved the battery on this thing.
The lithium-ion trimmer will give you 100 minutes of trimming with just one hour of charge.
And the best part is that this trimmer is also waterproof. So one more feather in its cap!

How to select the best beard trimmers for black men
A trimmer that can suit one guy might not be the best for another. It all depends on how much you're using it and the purpose you need it for. But in any case, before buying a trimmer for black hair, you need to look at these features:
Blades
The best face shaver for black men is one with sharp, powerful blades. Black hair can often be coarser and thicker than others. So your hair trimmer must be up for the job. We suggest going for stainless steel. Hey, even ceramic ones are not a bad idea. And if they are self-sharpening, then even better.
A word of advice, if you have sensitive skin, try going for beard trimmers with hypoallergenic razors as this would reduce your chances of getting razor bumps or skin rashes.
Battery
If you’re a professional or usually go for a once-a-week shave to get rid of all that bushy hair, a corded trimmer might be your best bet. But cordless, battery-operated, styling tools often offer great precision and styling. So make sure the cordless runtime lasts a good three to four hours.
Cords or No Cords
As we said previously, corded trimmers offer greater motor power. So it’s good for men with thick, busy beards that need shaving not too very often.
Cordless trimmers, on the other hand, are great for men who want more freedom of movement. They are also more compact and come in handy if you’re traveling a lot.
Styling Attachments and Length Settings
This matters a lot to some men. And not at all to others. Before you buy a trimmer for black hair, check if they come with all the attachments you want. Can you do your mustache? Shape your beard? Get that classic French beard look?
A lot of trimmers come with attachments that can help remove nose, ear, and even body hair.
Design
Before you get to buying a trimmer, decide what you’re going to be using it for mostly. Some trimmers come with narrow blades and offer a more precise shave, while others have larger blades that cover a wider surface area.
Also, see if you can use the trimmer for dry hair, wet styling, or both. Some of these products are even waterproof. Always look for a high-quality blade with an ergonomic grip.
How To Use A Beard Trimmer on Black Men's Facial Hair
Beard trimmers are an essential tool for those with black men’s facial hair. Properly caring for and styling your beard can give you the confidence to walk into any room with your head held high.
Just like any other style, black men's facial hair requires a bit of extra attention to look its best. Here are some tips to ensure a successful beard trimming experience every time.
Step 1: Choose the right blade and comb for your hair texture:
The first step is determining what kind of facial hair you have. Black men's hair is often coarse and curly. The shape, texture, and thickness of the hairs all play a role in deciding what type of trimmer you need. An adjustable trimmer paired with different styling combs makes the process easier and can deliver a clean, uniform look.
Step 2: Cleanse and moisturize your face before starting
Once you’ve decided on the right trimmer for your hair, it’s time to get going. Start by washing your face with a mild cleanser, followed by a moisturize. This will make sure the facial hair is clean and soft before trimming. Then, using the trimmer’s guide comb, begin from the underside of the beard, angling your trimmer in the same direction as the beard’s growth. Be sure to keep the trimmer at a consistent height to avoid any major mistakes.
Step 3: Start trimming the beard moving downwards
Now, it’s time to shape the beard. Start by creating an outline with the trimmer on the cheekbone, Temple, and neckline. This will create a clean and even edge to the beard. The cheeks can be trimmed by turning the trimmer horizontally and slowly moving downward. Adjust the angle and height of the trimmer to get the desired result. To get a nicely blended transition, angle the trimmer sideways and move downward.
Step 4: Use the styling combs to shape if needed
Lastly, you may opt for a stylishly shaped beard instead of a completely clean-shaven face. Begin at the underside of the chin and move in an upwards motion with the trimmer still on. Make sure to use the guard to avoid nicks or cuts. Once you’ve reached the neckline, use the trimmer at an upward angle and repeat the same motion as before.
